Within our website are many articles that cover various topics (click on Articles tab). If you are looking for dog training topics, this is a good place to search. I've attached a few here. We will look at improving how we organize the infromation or improve the search tool so people can find information more easily. Thanks again!

Try typing in "English Bulldog" at Google.com. You'll find many breeders and information about the breed. Also, try the library. They have tons of dog books.

Hi Christine--thanks for

Hi Christine--thanks for your input. Including information on horses is one of the areas we are lacking! Many more people are becoming horse owners and boarding them. So we do want to include horse information in Star Tribune Pet Central. I'm currently looking for writers who can cover the topic well. Please check back and thanks again.

It would be nice to see more

It would be nice to see more information on training dogs adopted from rescue. NOT just puppy information. We have a 3-4year old and cannot find information.

Hello Shannon. Thank you so

Hello Shannon. Thank you so much for your comment. We are really trying to make Star Tribune Pet Central a great resource for pet owners and your feedback is helping.

We have a library of information on training topics under the Articles tab on the website. Your comment is helpful in that we are looking at better ways of organizing the information.

Good luck with training your adult dog. I've been in your shoes and found that I could apply many of the same techniques used with puppies. I've attached some articles you might find helpful. Take care.

There's tons of Dog Training information on the web. Try typing in your Breed or "Dog Training" in any search engine. Also there are many books, dvds, and podcasts about dogs and training all over the internet.

Hello Mary. Yes, a

Hello Mary. Yes, a centralized site where people can post lost and found animals is much needed in the Twin Cities. It is nearly impossible to find a lost animal without going to every shelter or rescue website and examining their animals--even then, the prospect of locating a beloved pet is dim. The pet may not even be in a shelter. My heart goes out to those with lost pets.

I know that Animal Ark Shelter has a lost and found posting:
http://www.animalarkshelter.org

If it helps, The Star Tribune classifieds has a pet lost and found section. We will be moving your post to the miscellaneous section of the forum so perhaps more people will see it there.

Thank you for sharing your idea. It is something we will be discussing on our end.

It seems most of your events

It seems most of your events listed are geared towards adoption....it would be great if you worked together with other organizations to list things such as local obedience and agility trials, coursing events, and dog shows etc.
Also, is there any way to change the way people post? I know you folks have been trying to keep up but jerks keep posting disgusting things.......

It would be nice to have

It would be nice to have information relating to older puppies or young dogs who were potty trained and now seem to have forgotten! Or if it's a male dog is it marking? Thanks.

Hello Ginny--thanks for the

Hello Ginny--thanks for the comment. Potty training is never fun...especially if it seems to be going backwards!

Attached are a couple of articles you may find helpful that are in our library under the Articles tab on the website. Good luck!

Something to think about---did the potty training problem rear its head when it got cold? Cold weather and hard-packed icy snow often deter dogs from "going" outside--it's much more convenient and pleasant for them to find a spot indoors. As for marking--that is a million dollar question. Have you tried posting that on our forum? Someone may have helpful insight. Thanks again!

I'd like to see more about

I'd like to see more about exotics. It would be nice if there was information about birds, ferrets, rodents, snakes, etc. There are a lot of exotics in rescues and foster homes around here. People get them at the pet store because they think they look cool and then get rid of them because they didn't know that ferrets need their litter box cleaned every day, the snake needs a larger enclosure, the bird requires a lot of attention, and the iguana gets how big??

Julie

Hi Julie--thanks for your

Hi Julie--thanks for your reply. You bring up very good points. We've covered a few of the aspects of owning exotics but haven't begun to scratch the surface. Your point is well taken and something we can discuss.

I would like to see

I would like to see more...as much as possible...on ways people can get involved with helping animals whether it be volunteering, advocating for more pet friendly legislation, education about the pet overpopulation problem, etc. I would like to see a educational forum to HELP animals in addition to fun pet/pet owner events. I would be happy to research opportunities, legislation, activities, etc and write about it as well. Please contact me if interested in help in this area. Thanks for all you do!

I would like to see it

I would like to see it organized so I can find advertisements!

I am looking for a listing of dog trainers . . . or dog training ads . . . or something, but I can't find anything. With the free magazine that used to be available from the vets' offices, you could thumb through and find out what services were offered in the area and get an idea of where they were located. I don't see anything like that now. It all looks cluttered and disorganized. I hate to be critical, but I really miss the print format where I could find stuff.

Isn't this advertising to begin with? So why can't consumers easily find anything? Maybe all the old advertisers bailed?

So that's what I'd like to see. A place to find out what's available in the community

Respectfully,
DL

Hi DL. Thank you for the

Hi DL.

Thank you for the feedback. I understand your frustration and it sounds like you might be a bit more comfortable using the print format than the online format.

I encourage you to take a crack at out our "Pet Directory Listings" tool.

You can find this tool (large yellow box) in the right rail of this website.

Look for the "Pet Directory Listings" title.

Type in a keyword that relate to the services you're looking for. For example "dog training" than hit the "go" button.

Your search will return several businesses that offer dog training and a map to the business location!

I'd like to see a list of

I'd like to see a list of "pet friendly" resorts in Minnesota/Wisconsin. I'm looking to plan our family vacation for the summer and don't want to leave our dog behind...after all - he's family too! It'd be great to see a list of places who let us bring the dog along too!!

I would like to see

I would like to see information on old fashioned pet clinics. These used to be held in some towns. Lower cost vaccinations and liscensing could be done at once. Lower cost pet altering would also help with the pet overpopulation problem. People shouldn't have to forgo their own medical care to be able to pay for their pet's care.

I would love to see more

I would love to see more information on pet nutrition. There are so many natural, whole foods out there, and supplements. I found a great mobility supplement that really brought my golden's youthfulness back. He runs around and jumps on my bed again. www.wapitilabsinc.com.

THanks,

How about a free section,

How about a free section, page or area with contact info for all the local dog clubs, rescue groups and other non-profit organizations that provide information to people to help guide them in finding a healthy, non puppy-mill companion?

Rep. John Lesch's breed ban

Rep. John Lesch's breed ban was not adopted into the dangerous dog bill on Tuesday. I saw a lot published when he proposed the ban, but no one is reporting the fact that it was voted down! Spread the good news for owners of rotties, akitas, and the other "dangerous" dogs that would have been kicked out of the state.

I would like to see more

I would like to see more stuff on the "TRUE" pit bull all you ever see or here in the news is A PIT BULL attach it would be nice to see some positive stuff on this breed, me being a owner of 2 pit bulls find that I am always defending the breed. ther are so many good things these dogs do. it would be nice just to see a little bit of that in print to put the "myth away that they are a bad or dangerious breed"

I'd like to see where I can

I'd like to see where I can take my dog for some indoor exercise and play time during the winter. I have a very small dog and he can't go outside when there's snow on the ground or when it's cold. There's got to be an indoor dog park somewhere - I know I'm not alone with this situation. Help my poor dog who stays inside days at a time due to the MN weather!

How small is your dog? What

How small is your dog? What breed(s)? I go to outdoor dog parks all winter. We see dogs there in the 6-10 lb range. Many of them have a jacket on or booties on their feet. They do fine and have a lot of fun, or at least to many of us it looks like they are having a lot of fun. They certainly aren't laying around huddled in a ball or trying to get picked up by their dogger. Have you tried it? Or is it really too cold out for you more than the dog?

I would like to see: I am a

I would like to see:
I am a cat person and would like to see more info on cat diseases: what signs to watch for so we have an idea of what to say when we see the vet so we are not charged for a lot of testing. Some people are not aware of the Rescue sites that post alot of these diseases, so an article would be helpful in the paper for both dogs and cats. The need to advertise cat shows with ACFA or CFA coming up @ the Community Center in Maple Grove in May, so the public can see all the different breeds.

Anyone know of any Guinea

Anyone know of any Guinea Pig Shows?
I want to start showing my little piggies. It would be helpful for starters in the General Twin Cities area.

I am interested in learning

I am interested in learning more about the pros & cons of heartworm medicine and flea & tick products. I've always followed my vet's advice but lately have run across some articles stating that these are not ideal practices and giving some natural alternatives.

I'm starting to develop

I'm starting to develop fingertip calouses trying to find a comprehensive list of dog-friendly events and venues in the Twin Cities and surrounding areas!

There are sites (dogfriendly.com, bringfido.com, etc.), but I've actually been the one to add the few events/venues I know about (The Shakopee Renaissance Festival, View Restaurant Patio, Bar Abilene Patio).

The Animal Humane Society has a good events page, but not a list of pet-friendly venues.

I have a 13-week old Yellow Lab that I just can't stand to leave home alone and would love a list of places who'd welcome the two of us and our friends, 2 or 4 legged as they may be!

I think it would be a great

I think it would be a great idea if people can share pictures they've taken at a specific dog park and upload it to that particular dog park link. I would love to see pictures of different dog parks and get a better idea of the layout and it's amenities. That way you don't have to drive around town looking for the best park that suites your needs.

I love Pet Central! I read

I love Pet Central! I read a lot of news papers attempts at pet sections. Including such notables as the Washington Post and the Atlanta Journal Constitution. The StarTrib out does them all. One reason is you take on the controversy as well as the fun and trivial. It is a great read every week so keep doing what you are doing!

PS Here in Maine we have a whole new paper devoted to pets called Downeast Dog News.

I would like to see a list

I would like to see a list of "pet-friendly" businesses in the twin clities like coffee shops, gift shops etc.
