Puppy/Kitten Mills
Please let people know how disgusting and cruel these puppy/kitten mill breeders are. In this legislative session, Sen. Vickerman (Ag comm.) wouldn't even hear the new puppy mill bill.

You should check them out as the topic is about puppy mills.
Also, you mention the new puppy mill bill - what is the bill number so if someone was interested they could look it up and learn more about it? I for one would be interested in reading what the bill says.

Watch for breeders who won't
Watch for breeders who won't let you visit their home. See the mother of the puppy (reputable breeders often use a stud from another breeder). If they advertise that you can "order" a puppy, run away. If they have more than a couple different breeds. Get references from another impartial breeder. Ask among the breed clubs. Breeders know other breeders, good or bad. Go to www.akc.org and find the breed club or rescue group for the breed you want. Remember that the AKC will register all purebred puppies from AKC registered parents regardless of quality or the breeding practices. You should get a written contract for a health guarantee (for genetic disease up to at least 2 years), spay/neuter agreement for pets, and the breeder will take the puppy back at any time if you're not able to care for it. A breeder who shows will be working to better the breed. Good breeders don't have to advertise their puppies. They will often have waiting lists before the dogs are even bred.
Go to the site
Go to the site animalfolksmn.org and find out more about inhumane breeders.
Also just google Puppy mills and you will find out more than you would even want to know.
Be careful of website that advertise puppies., if they say they have mulitple breeds available --probably a mill, if you can't see where they are housed--probably a mill, if they are willing to ship an animal or want to meet you somewhere other than there property --probably a mill.
There are alot of rescues in Minnesota that do Puppy mill rescues--check out Ragom.org for golden retrievers--they just got more mill dogs in on there webpage. They also have stories and links and information about Puppy Mills on there website. Also check out HSUS website (Humane Society of United States).
