my new chihuahua
we just bought him 2 days ago from someone having a yardsale, and so i decided after i saw the sign" chihuahuas for sale" to look at them, well i fell in love with one of them, and decided to buy him, but theres 1 problem. How do we care for him? we never had 1 before, and he's only 6 weeks old. he's doing fine, very playful with my kids, eats ok,but shivers alot... is he scared, cold, or both? he does wine sometimes,, but i'm trying to understand, and accomodate his needs. he's very loving, and overall is doing well. it's just too soon for a vet visit from what i was told at Petco. any suggestions?

Why would it be too soon for a vet visit? If you bought the dog at a yardsale, a vet visit would be the first thing I would do.
He probably is a little frightened, because 6 weeks is a little too young to be taken from it's mother. 8 weeks is the optimum to wait so that it learns a little more socialization and manners from the Mom.
Chihuahuas are prone to some bad behavioral issues if not socialized well, so my advice would be to be sure to get him in a puppy class. Also, don't be tempted to baby him just because he's small.
Most pet stores have breed-specific books about dogs, as do the libraries, I guess I'd pick one up since you're a 'newbie' to dog ownership...

I have a one year old . Wet his food with warm water . Hold him give him a baby blanket they are cold nature and will shake when scared also .He will stop when he gets comfortable .they are very loving and love to snuggle. Due to them being small watch taking them out doors puppy pads are great for training. Also about vet their immune system needs to grow alittle befor shots due to their size.ALSO THEY WILL BE SORE AFTER SHOTS .
