PetLand Exposed!

Well...it's about time! To some of you, it is not news that dogs sold through pet stores more than likely come from puppy mills.
To others, this is shocking. And some may be asking, "What's a puppy mill?"(The picture to your left are the conditions of a puppy mill where dogs live 24 hours a day, seven days a week until they die or are killed by the breeder.)
Regardless of your knowledge--pet lovers should be "celebrating" that a national pet store has been exposed for selling pets that have been raised in horrid conditions.
The Humane Society of the United State released an exposé on Petland stores highlighting their months of investigation--exposing that the nearly 17,000 puppies sold in Petland stores come from unethical breeders.
To stop puppy mills and to help animals, here's what you can do today:
Here's what you can forever:
1. Adopt. (There are many purebreds available at shelters and rescue groups. There are even purebred rescue groups. You can search by breed, age, location, etc.)
Here's what you can do to make sure you don't get fooled by an unethical breeder.

Emailing Petland is
Emailing Petland is pointless & a waste of precious time & resources. They don't care what you think, only what your neighbors are willing to pay.
Any email or organized campaign should be going to the state's legislators, pollution control, business licencing & regulation agencies, Ag committees and any other regulators who might have potential jurisdiction and/or ability to change the laws. And don't just say "Petland is evil". Demand in logical and factual way "Please do [offical duties] in a way that makes puppy mills illegal". Emotional appeals such as this video, and PETA's tactics garner attention & increase $$ support but facts and figures are what gets the work done. And it has to be both consumer's voting with their $$ AND laws being changed & enforced.
As long as people buy from
As long as people buy from pet stores, Petland will be in business and dogs will suffer. Emailing Petland or even our legislators will not do as much as making it socially unacceptable to purchase a puppy from a puppymill. People frequently DO know what they're supporting, but they do it anyway. Say something-- that's the only way to stop this. Dry up their market. This economy is a perfect example. If people don't buy from them, their business goes away. Legislators will listen to powerful Ag lobbyists more than to animal lovers, so don't expect any help from them. It has to come from US-- directly to the buyers or prospective buyers.
